Description

The Manheim Central School District is seeking applicants for a FT Director of Athletics and Activities with an anticipated start date of spring or early summer 2025.

 

The Director of Athletics and Activities is responsible for developing, coordinating, facilitating, and supervising a comprehensive activities and extracurricular programs, which help to achieve the school district’s objective of promoting standards of excellence through extracurricular involvement. This position is accountable for planning, developing and supervising the extracurricular programs Grades 7 through 12 and to promote interscholastic and extracurricular activity programs in the best interest of the students, school, and community. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and supervise the interscholastic athletic and student activity programs that help achieve standards of excellence in following the school district’s Mission Statement.
  2. Develop and maintain a student-centered extracurricular philosophy for all levels.
  3. Prepare an annual budget, maintain accurate inventory, and order supplies/equipment.
  4. Develop and maintain a safe sports medicine program and ensure overall guidance to the interscholastic athletic and student activity programs are in concert with the local, district, state and national law, regulations, and policies.
  5. Participate as a representative of the District in PIAA, league conference, interscholastic advisory committees, internal committees, and community groups related to this position.
  6. Supervise Associate Athletic Director, coaches, advisors, sponsors, volunteers, student-athletes, event staff, and officials.
  7. Establish and carry out an annual performance evaluation process for athletic staff, volunteers, and officials.
  8. Annually recommend reappointment or non-reappointment of extracurricular staff, regular volunteers, event management staff, and officials. Makes recommendations regarding promotion, transfer, or termination of athletic/advisors/sponsors staff. Reviews background checks of volunteers and employees to ensure required clearances are filed.
  9. Create staff development workshops/clinics to ensure the continual professional development/necessary training of the athletic/advisors/sponsors staff is completed and compliant with local, state, and national standards.
  10. Develop schedules for extracurricular events including contracts with officials, visiting schools, transportation, and facilities.
  11. Supervise the administration of all approved activities and athletic contests, include but not limited to: acting as official host to all visiting teams; securing officials and event staff for home contests; securing transportation for away contests; making provisions for physician and ambulance at athletic events or activities as required, and handling all matters related to activity cancellations.
  12. Develop, maintain, and annually revise a School District Coaching and Student Activity Handbook. Included in this handbook are Policies and Procedures (school district, league, state) and Forms (informational sheets, school district forms, league forms). An annual review with recommendations shall be presented to the Administrative team.
  13. Oversee the control, maintenance, inventory, renovation, and replacement of all athletic supplies and equipment. Submit purchase orders for new equipment/uniforms as needed.
  14. Enforce all academic requirements for student participation in extracurricular activities; determine eligibility status of interscholastic athletes, prepare and distribute all eligibility lists and collect athletic records for future reference.
  15. Coordinate the use of event facilities, including locker rooms, training facilities, athletic fields, fitness center, and classrooms.
  16. Coordinate with maintenance staff and Administration on the proper storage of equipment, maintenance of grounds, and facilities used for extracurricular programs.
  17. Coordinate facility rentals for student activity purposes, staffing, needs, pricing, and availability.
  18. Be the liaison between the District, Athletic program, and medical staff including athletic training services and team doctors. Make recommendations to Administration for the continual use of medical services related to athletics.
  19. Monitor, manage, and update the District’s NCAA Clearinghouse for course offerings.
  20. Arrange and coordinate media coverage for extracurricular events and complete press releases to report results of extracurricular events. Promote athletics and activities regularly through various media and MCSD social media outlets.
  21. Coordinate the interviewing and hiring processes for all coaching and advising positions for extracurriculars.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

A Bachelor’s degree or higher and three (3) years coaching experience. Prior experience in athletics, athletic administration, and student activities, and extensive knowledge of and experience with athletic programs and student activities. Ability to oversee activities related to the management of athletic and student activity functions. Strong knowledge of P.I.A.A, District III, and Lancaster-Lebanon rules and regulations. Coaching and/or Student Advisor experience is required. CAA certification preferred and required upon completion of two years of service.

 

This is a 12-month position under the Act 93 agreement.
