Description

The Manheim Central School District is hiring a PT Food Service Assistant for the High School cafeteria.

 

The Food Service Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the school district's food service program. This includes preparing and serving meals, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and assisting with inventory and record-keeping. The role requires a collaborative and customer-focused approach to ensure students receive nutritious and delicious meals in a safe and welcoming environment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serves meals in a timely and friendly manner to students and staff in accordance with National School Lunch and Breakfast Program guidelines.
  2. Operates and maintains primary kitchen equipment.
  3. Assists in food preparation as required using standardized recipes.
  4. Complies with kitchen sanitation and safety standards in accordance with ServSafe guidelines and USDA regulations.
  5. Follows kitchen clean-up schedule after meal service.
  6. Operates and maintains Point of Sale Program.
  7. Participates in required trainings and meetings.
  8. Maintains accurate documentation for production records.
  9. Assists with special functions, catering, and other school functions as required.
  10. Follows all safety and sanitation regulations and supervisory directives. Wears appropriate footwear and gloves when needed, as well as mandatory hair coverings.
  11. Performs other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
  12. Maintains an optimum relationship with students and other staff members by being courteous and always mindful of the importance of confidentiality. Promote a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in the dining area.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL:

 

Walk/Stand: 100% (walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching)

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.

Regular Lifting:

  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently. This includes lifting trays of food, kitchen equipment, and supplies.

Occasional Lifting:

  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds occasionally. This may involve handling bulk food supplies, such as large bags of flour or boxes of canned goods.

Additional Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to push or pull carts loaded with food or supplies.
  • Manual dexterity to handle kitchen tools and equipment safely.

Vision/hearing: Normal. The kitchen and cafeteria can be noisy, with sounds from cooking equipment, ventilation systems, and conversations among staff and students. Workers need to be able to communicate effectively despite the background noise.

 

Mental: Ability to evaluate, interpret and analyze written and verbal                                       communications. Ability to perform basic math functions.

 

Environment: Normal, fast-paced cafeteria environment.The kitchen area may experience higher temperatures due to cooking equipment such as ovens, stoves, dish rooms, and steam tables. Employees may be exposed to heat and steam, especially during peak meal preparation times.

Cafeteria workers should be prepared for these temperature variations and dress accordingly, wearing appropriate, breathable clothing and staying hydrated.

 

10-Month position

Hours: 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
